Celcom is first to release Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Malaysia

In continuing its good relationship with Samsung, Celcom Axiata Berhad (Celcom) has announced the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 -- the first telco to do so in the country.
This particular Tab 10.1 is the 16GB 3G model. As for the Samsung Tab 10.1 WiFi edition and 32GB models, it was also announced that they will be available in a month´s time or so.

Priced at RM1,899 outright, the Tab 10.1 also comes bundled with two new Celcom broadband packages -- Basic (RM68 per month with 4GB capacity) and Advance (RM98 per month with 6GB capacity).

Both packages require an upfront of RM150 and have 12 months (with the Tab 10.1 priced at RM1,578 for Basic and RM1,528 for Advance) and 24 months (with the Tab 10.1 priced at RM1,528 for Basic and RM1,468 for Advance) packages.

As an added bonus, Celcom is organising a consumer launch tomorrow (20 August 2011) at three locations: The Piazza @ The Curve, the concourse area of Queensbay Mall, Penang, and the Celcom Branch @ Jalan Kempas, Johor Bahru. There will be major discount offers in conjunction with these launches.

For Piazza, the first 300 customers will be able to purchase the Tab 10.1 for only RM999. Out of that 300, 20 will be randomly selected to be a part of the RM99 for a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 promotion. As for Penang and Johor, the first 50 customers to show up at both venues will be able to buy the Tab 10.1 for only RM999.

"Celcom has always understood its customers´ diverse telecommunication needs and thus have always worked hard to provide extremely competitive plans that enable our customers to enjoy affordable yet consistent services anytime and anywhere," said Zalman Aefendy Zainal Abidin, Chief Marketing Officer of Celcom.

"Indeed, this partnership further cements our commitment to continuously introduce new products as well as provide the best in terms of offerings and services for mobile communications."

Today´s launch of the Tab 10.1 further exemplifies Samsung´s belief that tablets will become an important device for everyone and be a part of their everyday lives.

"Our lives have been greatly influenced by tablet PCs as of late. It can be easily seen that tablets are no longer for early adopters and the tech-savvy. In fact, with the way innovation is driving the industry, the tablet has evolved into a lifestyle device that has essentially become an everyday tool for all to use. Soon, tablets will no longer be a luxury item and instead be a necessity for all. This is why the Tab 10.1 is designed to offer that and more. Fundamentally, the Tab 10.1 brings to the table a unique market proposition, fitting the "sweet spot" for portability and maximum multimedia usage," added Lee Jui Siang, Head of Mobile Phone Division, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 features a WXGA TFT LCD display (1280 x 800) and comes in an ultra-thin form factor, measuring 8.6mm in thickness and weighing in at 565g. It supports HSPA+ network speeds of up to 21Mbps and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor.
